Email me next time you get the message so I can look.
We get DOS attacks all the time but mostly not enough to stop the server running.
More of the same today. ~20 bot farm subnets blocked. Mostly 3rd World stuff so hopefully nobody here will be affected.

They are at it again and after recent events I am not surprised… This time much more aggressive. A proper botnet, from around the 3rd World, IPs in places like Argentina, Iraq, etc. Now looking at better ways to manage this.
Temporarily, a captcha has been enabled.
Any insights from which direction this is coming from? Maybe not much, but such an attack costs some money and dedication. Besides, it requires a criminal mindset as well.

Or it could be just a vandal, script kiddie.
Unfortunately, it is not that expensive anymore.
Seeing how this started a while ago and how it developed, I am pretty sure who is behind it, especially in terms of motivation coupled with the resources.
As said, it is not expensive these days.
Cloudflare blocks any massive DDOS attacks, so this stuff is pitched below that, at a level which our donation funded server is heavily loaded.
Might enable the CF captcha, which will block anything, but that’s somewhat annoying. AFAICT you get it only once, while logged-in. So an intermediate mode is being tested.
Big solid attack started 0330 this morning. A whole-site captcha has been enabled which should make the site usable for signed-in users. Work is being done in the meantime to change some stuff…
Code optimisations have been done (many thanks to the super clever Claude expert
) so the forum should be a lot more resistant to these bot farm attacks.
Captcha removed for now. Let’s see how it goes. Please report any issues, on this thread.
Another attack started 7pm on the dot. Obviously scheduled. But the server is now holding up.

What’s the point….?
