We will all surely agree that AI has gone a long way from Eliza.
We have already let software have major control of a lot of stuff in our lives from vehicles and other machines through our personal relations to our finance and many other matters. Assuming humans will still have 100% control regardless of AI involvement in that software is not realistic.
Again the issue is not evident matters (launching an ICBM) but much more insidious like controlling population through news bias, minor bank account movements times millions, delaying interpersonal feedback thus affecting the relationship, supplanting your ID…you name it.
A close relative recently gave AI access to his email so it could do some multiple complex emailing tasks on his behalf…one can only imagine what emails could an evil AI have sent on his behalf…and if AI wanted to leave no trace, it could even do so!
…and by the time you realize, if you do realize, it was of AI’s doing, the damage would already have been done.

True. The mobile phone addiction is much more pronounced today than any drug or even nicotine ever was. I wonder how long it will be until we get the first “Meta annonymous” self help groups…. of course online and sponsored by clicks.

I doubt that, but the move to ban youths from social media is certainly a step in the right direction. I am more an advocate for step by step exposure to the mobile phone e.t.c. world so that they don’t fall into it totally unprepared at a given age. but what this does is require monitoring and mentoring.
Consider the following:
“AI” is a truly powerful tool in the hands of smart users. It dramatically increases productivity, which is good for clever people and bad for less than clever people. I see a big plus in that you can start a business and develop clever products without having to kill the business by having to employ a bunch of smart but expensive people.
The downside is that the world is going to be even more confusing for most people than it is already.
