Thank you for that post, WN. Very good!
I can do a 10% gradient and anyway the terrain on the go around looks OK. I suspect Shoreham is as bad if you turn very slightly right after departing on 02… Jepps are no problem too.
For overnights, small GA is parked on the grass, but as already said, it is fine. The rest is here.
Really recommend a short stop at Corsica for much cheaper fuel. If you clear Schengen before, you don’t need any PPR/PN whatsoever. Fees will also be a bit lower if you come to Elba from within Schengen.
Currently it looks set for a Sunday mid-day arrival, Tuesday morning departure.
I phoned them up.
Just be cautious of this NOTAM for Tuesday.

Hmmm – what is that likely to mean?
I plan to be on Elba Sunday lunchtime and depart Tuesday morning.
Peter, I will probably fly over tomorrow for lunch at the airport restaurant and say hello. My phone is +39 335 1562060.
If I have a change in plan I’ll let you know here.
At Elba today
Had an excellent lunch with African Eagle – great to meet up at least!
Some wx on the way
The approach is indeed interesting, but no worse than I have seen elsewhere. Yes you do need to be fully configured for landing on the downwind leg.
Downwind
Final runway 16
Two Jetprops – very nice
We had to park on grass, so pushed it there manually after getting fuel. The grass is pretty rough and would need a lot of power to taxi on it.
I’ve just got back from Elba. A great trip. Just sorting out the photos
Some more pics:
Crossing the N French coast
Approaching Bergerac LFBE, to collect a friend
Final at LFBE
A quick stop in +33C heat
Bergerac is definitely scenic
Departure from Bergerac, in very hazy wx
I think this is Marseilles – hazy at FL150
Not far to go
A piece of Elba on the way in
The water looks nice
A tight left base turn before the hill
Almost on final
Some light GA on grass (like us)
with loads of gravel so definitely not a good idea to taxi on the “grass” under the high power which would be needed…
Lots of boats
Interesting fortifications
Not much of Elba is flat
Lots of haze over the sea
Departure from 16 so straight out over the sea
Back at FL140, just at the top of the haze, with a few buildups around
Finally a nice bit of flight between layers
Departing from Bergerac again
The Alps had some bad wx over them so it was good to avoid them.
On the way back to Shoreham, some strikes on the stormscope but all were behind
A super nice trip, but Elba needs more than 2 days!
