Seemslike this weekend passed totally unnoticed? :)
I have had a couple of adventures – a posh fly-in and let’s call it a MEDEVAC flight of sorts – i need to sit down and sort pictures and do the write up. And you, gang?
IR training under the hood in solid rain, causing the O-470 to repeatedly ice up. Lost maybe 1" MP every 5min. That was a new experience for me.
I have been to Kempten EDMK at the (northern) foot of the Alps for a daytrip with my father on saturday. Landed for lunch, after that a 1 h sightseeing flight through some Alps valleys alongside the Zugspitze (as it became convective with some rain and thunderstorms 8000 ft was the max possible altitude). Flying through the valleys along the steep hillsides with clouds above makes for some spectacular views (sorry no pictures from this part as I was quite busy with flying/navigating). After that back to EDMK to let the impressions settle with a cup of coffee and cake, refuel and back to Essen-Mülheim EDLE again. What a day!
Sightseeing flights with three Junkers F13 replicas were offered for some 240 EUR.
For once, no flying. Just hang around the aircraft a bit…
Added a quart of oil
Added a few litres of TKS
Checked tire pressures
Updated the GTN database
Did a litte more cleaning
Did a few small paint touch ups
in order to have aircraft ready for the next tour. Unfortunately, as you all know, the weather turned awful across most of Europe for the upcoming Ascension weekend and I will likely not fly at all.
Did a sightseeing tour in moist air, towards mountains in the western part of Romania. Was hoping for reasonable weather, but it turned out very humid.

We went to Bembridge (again), this time with a taxi to Shanklin. It’s slightly more genteel with a few thatched cottages, art galleries and antique shops, but in reality Shanklin Chine is the only attraction. Chine is an old Saxon word for ‘steep river valley through a cliff to the sea’ now used only in Dorset and on the Isle of Wight. It was a peaceful walk with a surprising amount of wildlife, and the children had a scavenger hunt in the guidebook. Shanklin village at the top of the cliff had no decent looking restaurants, so we went to the Fisherman’s Cottage Inn at the bottom of the chine, which serves upmarket pub food (tempura monkfish instead of fish-and-chips). Then a happy afternoon on the beach.

There might not have been a lot of attractions in Shanklin, but it all looks lovely!
So, here are my adventures – Part 1
On Saturday we had a Fly-In event combined with luxury car owners gathering at Pärnu Airport.
Pärnu is considered to be the Summer Capital of Estonia and i had expectations of great weather.
However, the weather turned out to be rather windy and cold. Flight to Pärnu was quite a rodeo and i didn’t enjoy it all. I was so busy with butt clenching so that i completely forgot about taking pictures.
To make things even more “interesting” the car gang went to the racing ring first – the ring is just beside the airport and is under short final RW03. 
On final RW03 we were informed that there are drone operation over the racing ring (completely unlawful – but, hey, it’s Saturday and people having fun!) with unknown altitude but might be up to over 500 feet. And there were birds (a lot of them) also… landing on 03 with direct crosswind gusting 19 kts was not fun (i’m flying C150) and i was tossed around by the gust and pushed for go around. Yeah, i just wanted to see the drone closer, i guess :-/

We, the pilots, got to the ramp before car drivers so we used the time advantage to get something to eat before the place becomes crowded.

I am not a car person, so for me they are all the same… i drive my Mazda and can’t see why one would need anything “better” :)
That posh gang was so posh i felt myself being in the wrong place.
So we just left with intentions of dropping by a fellow pilot’s @carpediem airstrip (EEMU) at Muhu island.
Just a quick hop …
… and we found ourselves in paradise – sunshine, warm air, no wind
Locals came in to see the planes and one actually asked for a ride
Much better atmosphere, much nicer people, fabulous weather…
Spent the about an hour and took off on a rodeo trip back to Tallinn
In the morning, with the help of an airplane mechanic friend, we corrected Emmie’s tendency to turn when left to her own devices, as described here.
In the afternoon, flew another EDQN friend to Bayreuth where he had to pick up his Mooney from the annual.
Was good to be in the air again!

So u based at TLL? I used to go there often for aircraft maintenance at MMRO. Interestingly, we once had to complete an A320 project at the hangar in Parnu! And I thought nobody used it anymore. Nice to read about Parnu again!
