Why not become an instructor?

Interpretation varied on whether the course formed part of the requirement. The working group for NPA 2014-29(A) addressed this by proposing to require the completion of a course in accordance with FCL.315 and the change was contained in the draft rules annexed to Opinion 05/2017. In spite of this the most recent committee meeting has opted for a more relaxed amendment.

Clubs are usually DTOs. Can DTOs teach IR?

The French aeroclub federation has made a template for ATO paperwork, well before the DTO concept was approved, so many clubs went from RTF to ATO :)

Here is a relevant upcoming amendment to Part-FCL accepted by the EASA committee 26–27 June 2019.

(27) Point FCL.915.FI is amended as follows:
(a) point (b)(2)(i) is replaced by the following:
“(i) except for an FI providing training for the LAPL(A) only, passed the CPL theoretical knowledge examination, which may be taken without completing a CPL theoretical knowledge training course and which shall not be valid for the issue of a CPL; and”

I fail to see what changed. For full-FI, one didn’t have to complete a course before, one still doesn’t. Only show knowledge, i.e. pass the exams. Without CPL TK, one was LAPL-restricted. One still is. Or did some member states interpret the current rule differently?

Under the rule change a seminar will be merely one way of satisfying the refresher training requirement. More suitable and economical forms of that training are bound to emerge.

@Qalupalik – don’t think it will kill of FI seminars – the refresher traIning at an ATO is the FI seminar

Now retired from forums best wishes

Actually Swedish is required :S

It part of “Högskolebehörighet”.

That is an unbelievable concession. Very useful to many who want to instruct in their “old age” while being a total p1sstake of the old system. Clearly a CPL without planting one’s bum in the classroom is not a real CPL.

Snoopy, a PPL is sufficient for an FI certificate. The CPL exam passes are required for an FI to instruct beyond the LAPL(A). Generally, all instructors are required to hold the licence or rating for which instruction is given. FCL.915(b)(1). If instruction will not be given for a PPL then a CRI might suffice.

Dimme, it appears the Swedish language requirement has been omitted.

Translated this means you need a CPL to instruct anything more than LAPL as FI?

No. It means that you still have to take the CPL TK exams, but you don’t have to take a CPL ground school course — you can study yourself. This is actually a great help for people who already have an IR.

The backside is that if you do it that way, you can’t use the exams to get an actual CPL.

Here you go @Snoopy

As a flight instructor, you get to teach basic flight training to pilot students while developing yourself as a pilot.

It is a very fun and rewarding profession in many ways. You will practice leadership, communication technology and pedagogy. The flight instructor training consists of both theory and flight.

YH FI (A) is state funded – The students are responsible for literature, uniform and fees only to the Swedish Transport Agency.

The education is CSN-eligible (state student loan agency) and you receive SEK 10,016 per month to cover living expenses. Additional cost loans for the Swedish Transport Agency’s certificate costs can also be applied for.

Course Description
The training includes both practical and theoretical instruction and takes place full-time for one year. The training itself takes place during the first 5 months, followed by a 5-month period with Learning in Work (LIA) where you do internships at a flight school.

Academic studies
During the theoretical parts of flight instructor training, you will gain in-depth knowledge of laws and regulations in the field of aviation, meteorology, aerodynamics and dark theory . You will also gain theoretical knowledge and practice in providing flight instructions, as well as briefing before the practical flight.

Two days of education in pedagogy and didactics are conducted in collaboration with Braathens Training, ATO, with a very experienced instructor in teacher education and CRM.

The pedagogy course includes learning theory, group exercises and teaching how to as an instructor reach out with their message to different types of students.

Heart and lung rescue and fire training are also included in the course in collaboration with the Mälardalen Fire and Rescue Association. The flight instructor training consists of 17 full days of theory (130 hours) in which lectures, group work and practical parts are alternated.

Flight Training
During the practical parts of the flight instructor training, you are trained to fly from the right chair while practicing giving instructions. Your instructor acts as a student and you are allowed to correct and instruct.

Learning at Work (LIA)
LIA covers approximately 20 weeks of full-time studies and is carried out either at OSMAA or at another flight school. Here you get the opportunity to practice the skills gained through the education in an environment with students and the support of an experienced flight instructor.
