Airspace changes in Hungary - Many restricted and danger areas in Hungary withdrawn, new dropzones created

Effective from July 20, some airspace changes have been introduced in Hungary. It’s the most significant round in the past two years.

Danger areas completely withdrawn (previously active by NOTAM):
LHD15 EGERBAKTA
LHD18 CSORNA/AKASZTÓ
LHD30 ÉRD
LHD39 CIGÁND

Restricted areas completely withdrawn (previously active H24):
LHR3 BALATONFŰZFŐ
LHR5 RÉPCELAK
LHR8 KAZINCBARCIKA
LHR11 TISZAVASVÁRI
LHR12 SAJÓBÁBONY
LHR15 DUNAÚJVÁROS
LHR16 SZOLNOK-TÓSZEG
LHR22 PÉT
LHR30 HAJDÚSÁMSON
LHR31 HEVES-ALATKA
LHR32 VÁC-DERECSKEDŰLŐ

The removal of these restrictions, especially the restricted areas “protecting” industrial assets formerly classified as militarily important, now in private hands and many times defunct, is of course good news for GA in the country. Unfortunately, LHR10 NAGYHEGYES, the oversized (it’s the largest in Hungary besides LHR1 over Budapest city centre – and it’s actually possible to get an LHR1 clearance) restricted area over a small natural gas field, which makes it impossible to fly a proper pattern at my home airport is still there, despite efforts for either removing it or making it’s size more reasonable.

Also, new dropzones have been created at LHBK Balatonkeresztúr, LHMC Miskolc, LHPR Győr/Pér. These areas are especially interesting, because not many mapping products depict them properly (up until recently even Skydemon did not show the extent of the circular ones by default) and if active, they are a no go either VFR or IFR, unless cleared through by the dropzone operator. Their activity is NOTAMed and of course if you are talking to FIC/ATC, they will inform you about them and their status, but some of them are rather large and many are active on summer weekends, so it’s the best to plan ahead.

The changes are now published in the A series NOTAMs and will get into the AIP by the next AIRAC cycle.

Thanks for the heads up. Hungary is becoming almost like the US with regard to freedom to fly. Now if they would lower the MEA to a more reasonable level like 2000’ AGL around most places in Hungary that would be great.

I have deleted the last post as it is from a person (an aviation app developer in Hungary) who started off spamming the forum with adverts and now keeps creating new identities. He is the same as “alexmillis” whose identity is was being used to create a sort of posting history in preparation for dropping in adverts. We get this a fair bit and it wastes a lot of my time. Businesses can advertise here and are welcome to do so (when relevant, etc) but most are too damn lazy to do even the smallest amount of useful participation; they pick up old threads and drop random comments in them and think that will be enough.
