Can anyone guess at what their rules of engagement might be?
I read, many years ago, that a US carrier (at the time parked in UK waters, near the Isle of Wight) would try to get you to ditch next to it and would get a helicopter up to pick you up, but I don’t know how they could stop you, other than flashing a red light.
Unless your aircraft is equipped with an arrester hook, ditching next to the carrier is prob90 a wise course of action.
The top speed of those things seems to be classified but lets assume it can do 25kt. If it goes full speed into a fictional 10kt headwind many SEP can probably land on the deck.
They could probably stop you by shooting at you.
25 kts is not the right number
I’m sure they can do more than 25kts. Not that it makes any difference. I’m sure any SEP could stop on the deck if it had to. The practicalities are such a thing are a different matter, and are practically non-existent :-)

I can assure you that number is wrong.
I am sure they can do 40kt. I recall that figure from WW2 operations.
We’re the heli’s out of fuel? If not then why not take off while waiting on the major to land then return when he was down?
