Economy flying and long range is possible.

I generally fly the Carson formula (100 × 1.32 = 115k/135mph), LOP (rough to smooth) and over square 22-23’/1950rpm,

6-6.5 gals/24l/hr

Oh, interesting. So the F has that theoretical LRC as well with the low RPM cruise. I never tried it on my C Model as TAS goes into the low 100’s.

What confuses me is that you achieve 135 mph (IAS I presume) with that power setting. 115 kt at 10000 ft would mean a TAS of around 135 kt which at 6.5 GPH is quite phenomenal for an F model. With the Monroys this would mean you could almost equalize the Ovation in terms of range…

Carson speed for my plane is (105mph x 1.32 = 139 mph/123kt IAS) which translates to about 143 kts TAS. At 10’000 ft cruise, this is achieved best by 2300 RPM and about 7.8 GPH flow, which incidently gives the best range analysis for the whole spectrum with around 770 NM and 5.3 hrs endurance (with 45’ reserve) and 52 USG usable. On the opposite, the ultra long range cruise at 1800 RPM produces speeds of around 100 kts TAS and 7.7 hrs endurance but with a lesser range of around 730-740 NM. So I deemed it not worth even looking at this cruise regime unless it’s about setting a longest flight record.
