New EASA AML supported by GSA brings cost effective LPV solutions

Sorry if this reads like a press release. I copy-pasted most of it from PPL/IR.

Basically, theres a new STC for just €300 which approves (amongst other stuff) LPV approaches for most existing GNSx30W installations and includes the all important flight manual supplement.

Garmin GPS System upgrade to add LPV capability now available via EASA AML STC for CS23 single pilot operated aircraft.

The approval of LPV capability is for an existing Garmin GPS unit of the following versions GNS530W, GNS530AW, GNS530W-TAWS, GNS530AW-TAWS, GNS430W and GNS430AW. The STC approves the operational use of these units for the following navigation performance requirements:

  • RNAV 5 (BRNAV) in accordance with EASA AMC20-4
  • PRNAV operations in accordance with JAA TGL-10
  • GPS non-precision approach in accordance with AMC20-27
  • LPV approaches in accordance with AMC20-28.

(The one-off authorised use of this STC just costs €300 per aircraft registration and includes a Certificate of Design, installation details and Aircraft Flight Manual supplement)

This is good.

What about none waas units does this give RNAV approval

This doesn’t help non WAAS units. However, you can also use the STC to facilitate a WAAS upgrade.
