Today I flew home to Sabadell LELL. It was 4 hours at FL200. Due to the wind the track was much longer than usual but the 60 kts tailwind was very helpful. Flew some 770 NM and spent about 65 gallons.
But … Boy is it cold up there! See picture. I wasn’t really prepared and expected the heater to make it warmer. I was in the sun all the time and all the bad stuff down below. Never had to touch the TKS button once.
Now I’m shopping for some real winter clothes when I go flying :-)
This is when the tailwind was still a headwind
Approaching M0.3 pretty good for a fixed gear piston.
Yes. Initially it was a headwind. Hence the route over Paris
So that image looks like a radar screen … Have we spoken today??
No we didn’t. I was the second pair of eyes when you flew past. Maybe next time…
-36C at FL200 is great. That’s worth a good 2000ft on the operating ceiling, compared to ISA. I once saw -38C at FL195 but that was really rare.
That is so silly but for all the freezing I had to endure you will forgive me. :-)
TAS 200 @ 20,000 ft calculates to 0.32556 Mach :-)
200 was the maximum I saw.
And to @airways: I’m looking forward to it
