Jet fuel

Lots on here about Avgas availability poor lack thereof, interested in what if any issues I will face in Europe using Jet fuel.

It stinks and sticks to your fingers

And costs a lot less than Avgas!

Draining tanks with jet fuel is a real mess. And you need a container for the drained fuel, just spilling it on the tarmac like AVGAS, that evaporates without leaving traces, will result in expensive action by the airport fire brigade.

Then you will have to decide whether or not to use anti-icing and anti-fungal additives like Prist. If so, you will have to handle it yourself in most cases as many refuellers (rightly!) refuse to get close to that stuff. It is one of the most poisonous substances that are freely available. There are some fuel bowsers that can automatically mix Prist to the fuel - we tend to only use Prist when we can get it that way.

Apart from that, JetA1 only has advantages over AVGAS!

Thanks yes Prist seems much more commonly mixed at the bowser in the US.

Make sure you have completed your family planning before you start handling Prist!
