Corona / Covid-19 virus - airport and flying restrictions, and licensing / medical issues

Here are the Scottish figures.

Unfortunately not broken down by age or sector (e.g. care workers or poor farmers), but I guess they have to keep some secrets…

Which prompts me to ask those who like to calculate these things, what number of new infections per 100,000 per week would constitute elimination of the disease?

That’s only the first half of the question. You could have 1000 new infections a week and so long as you could identify them and contact trace them and make sure you have fewer infections next week, you could keep it under control.

That’s why there is such a strong push to increase testing capacity and to train and recruit contact tracers. Didn’t you all see the adverts?

Croatia is open Only EU or schengen though.

Loads of apartments too.

Reportedly (I have no link) Italy will open early June.

That is the plan, if weather etc allow

And it did, barely We decided a “go” a couple of hours before we flew. We had plans for 10 aircraft, but managed only 6 due to weather (snow). This has been the coldest May here since they started doing proper measurements 150 years ago!! Anyway, a very long time since I had this much fun in the air. We flew in one formation with the Safir as lead. The Safir is very loud, so best to have it in front so people can hear it

When we taxied out, the fire department on the field stopped us, and escorted us out to 27 with blue lights on Take off was done together. We lined up on 27. Safir in front on the center line, then staggered left and right. Took off 4-5 seconds apart and lined up over the sea. Then sik-saki’ng over the county and followed the shoreline to Trondheim for a large circle over the city.

ATC was excellent all the way. We landed as a formation also. Received a “formation cleared to land 27, left slow”. I wondered what this “left slow” was about, but figured it meant land on the right side, use left side for taxiing to an exit. I figured correct

One of the best 17 of may ever, and it wouldn’t have happened without Corona. Life is strange sometimes.

Sounds brill

Flying out of Shoreham is now normal, but practically speaking there are few places to land at, as detailed elsewhere e.g. here. And I am not interested in eating some 15W50 fry-up “all day breakfast” which comes with a free DIY stent insertion kit

I checked out my above report on Croatia with a local source of utmost reliability and it appears to be a premature report.

The existing notam is still active today – no free tourist traffic yet.

This local copy is also relevant for current and future travel.

However, I am informed that tomorrow is another day

Practically speaking there is no way for any significant numbers to get to Croatia, other than via GA, especially to the islands.

And Brac is more strict due to somebody having just infected a load of people there.

Most countries are lifting their quarantine measures for EU/EEA citizens (+ UK) whilst the UK is now talking about introducing quarantine measures in the next couple of days.

Various newspaper reports (e.g. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/05/17/two-week-quarantine-plan-uk-visitors-poised-announced-week/) are suggesting that the quarantine measures can then be replaced by onsite COVID-19 tests at airports as and when they are available (not anytime soon)

Why does the government keep coming up with unrealistic and impractical measures? There is also talk about exemptions within the Common Travel Area only but then would the Channel Islands (almost virus-free) really want visitors from the UK?

I have got a strong feeling that this (as when the tests do become available) will lead to only certain airports to be designated as airports for inbound travel which will only be a selected few. I can’t imagine UKBF carrying COVID-19 test kits with them to test crew and passengers at every airfield that allows inbound travel.

If this gets implemented as reported, it will end up crippling cross-border GA travel.

See here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-52687448?intlink_from_url=&link_location=live-reporting-story

Also Germany has lifted quarantine measures for various states and most remaining states are expected to lift quarantine measures for intra-EU/EEA (including UK) travel next week.

Unfortunately airfields are jobsworth magnets. The long list of rules that aviation has and the ability to boss people around is completely irresistable to these types, who now feel they can make up their own rules in addition to the legal ones they already are delighted to try to enforce.

Elstree is opening partially from Wed:

After the recent DfT announcement some aerodromes reopened very quickly and others have opted to remain closed.

Currently due to the 2m separation & other Covid-19 rules flight training is and looks to be prohibitive for some time further. School activity at Elstree is pivotal financially for the aerodrome to reopen fully (whatever that may look like in 2020).

So in this first phase Elstree will partially reopen for flying from Wednesday 20th May. The Notam is as follows:

COVID-19 INFORMATION – TEMPORARY.
OPERATING HOURS 0800 – 1600 WED/THU/FRI/SAT
NO FIRE COVER
ALL FLIGHTS STRICTLY PPR FROM THE ATSU OR AERODROME MANAGER
PH 07793 563291 or 07976 439658
RESTRICTED CIRCUIT FLYING
ALL OUT OF HOURS FLIGHTS REQUIRE THE APPROVAL OF THE AERODROME MANAGER
IN LINE WITH CURRENT GOVERNMENT COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS TRAINING FLIGHTS ARE PROHIBITED
