Maybe has to be added that the most critical commodity these days are time.
Most people work full time and have preciously little time to do whatever they need to do at home, so any hobby which takes away more time will be under scrutiny. And flying unfortunately is one which takes tremendous amounts of time away from home. Particularly with kids, there is no time for such things and people end up in 24/7 threadmills which still leaves them with too few time to even go for a walk in the park.
Maybe that is why people disappear from flying between 30 and 60 and turn up again once kids are flown and they are either divorced or both have found their own things they can do without the other.
