Conti going to build Lycoming engines?

Interesting development: http://www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/All-News/2015/October/pilot/pe_savvy

In short Continental acquired ECi who produce PMA cylinders and other parts for Conti and Lycoming engines and a complete Lycoming clone which is currently for the experimental market only but for which certification is in the works. Obviously ECi will stop making cheaper Conti parts but expands its Lycoming parts business.

It’s not that many years ago (2-3?) that Continental closed down (Continental owned) Mattituck. Mattituck was one of the most popular Lycoming clone producers for the experimental market, much larger than Titan. One has to wonder what they are doing.
