The Wright Flyer had weak stability, although this footage shows it flying quite nicely, and early models may have had negative or neutral stick stability? Curtiss overtook them and hence we are not boarding Flyers when going to Tenerife.
Yes, it is a shame they did not enter more of the flying contests of the era and too bad that they became paranoid about people copying their design.
Still, they did okay with a $1.5 million payment which in today’s money is about $40 million.
The company then recieved a $2 million payment a few years later so all in, I guess the surviving brother was financially secure.
