I’ve wondered the same. Honda is a giant killer in the world of engines, but a bit of a mysterious giant killer in that they spend huge amounts of money just to check something out, without any serious business plan, and see where it goes. I guess it’s the legacy of Socihiro Honda, who was a believer in real data and experimental programs. Honda has generally been run by an engineer since his time.
