Can a GA airport survive without commercial property rental income?

Our club field, which is a grass strip, is mostly paid for by the membership fees, any additional income is -well, just additional. We are not allowed to make profit anyway.

We had to set it up that way because we cannot buy the land, since it’s owned by the federal government as it might be used for future hypothetical expansion of the neighboring naval air station. A rather remote possibility, but still.

Everything else (e.g. the “Flugleiter”, mowing, etc.) is provided by voluntary club members. The field is in it’s 40th year now, so it seems to work out.
