Problem with Avidyne TAS6xxA

New software required to solve missing traffic problem:

This is a funny one. I recall reading about this quite some time ago. There is no issue if the traffic data comes out on ARINC429. Only a RS232 link is affected.

I wonder what equipment uses RS232 for traffic data from the Avidyne TAS? The one I have (a non-“A” TAS605 feeding a KMD550 and two Sandel SN3500s) cannot use RS232 and neither could anything else I came across back then, other than some specific old Avidyne MFDs.

The Garmin GNS530/430 use the RS232 interface.

Is either of the two data streams documented anywhere?

Presumably the ARINC429 one is quite simple.

Perhaps the RS232 one was originally defined by Garmin and had to be reverse engineered?

One funny thing is that the very original “A” firmware didn’t have this bug.
