While on the subject of avionics wire, can someone in the know explain the importance of the “wire spec” part of an M27500 identifier (see here for how the identifier is put together). What I am asking is if “TG” in the example can be replaced with “SB” or “TG” or some other “spec”.
After getting some feedback from people who work with avionics / do inspections, I’ve decided that the statement “M27500 or equivalent” in the installation manual for the audio panel allows me to use wire that has the parameters of a M27500 wire but not the approval / stamp.
And for all practical intents and purposes the “wire spec” is of tertiary importance.
Note that this is for the headset runs, so trivial.
So I’m hopefully going to end up with slightly better wire for a lot less money, wire that I can actually go and buy instead of importing or overpaying for.
