When to say NO to maintenance

even though just dumping the plane at some company would be less hassle.

I’ve seen so much poor work and short cuts taken by people trying to make a living out of being a mechanic that I’d be too scared to do that. My stuff is too important to me for that, except perhaps for cars, for which I pay the shop and suffer the necessary consequences and ‘come backs’… On a car that by design requires a bare minimum of service.

On the planes, I do most of the detailed, time consuming work myself, with the IA available and used for consultation. The IA does the airframe and engine inspection – much of which I then repeat. He is not a professional and I am in no particular hurry… so we can do the job right.
