How can one detect a broken piston ring (high oil consumption)?

adding ANYTHING to your oil and hoping for a positive result is is just wishful thinking …

You might be surprised at what adding a single litre of Mobil 1 0W-20 can do, after 10hrs.

Bottom plugs 2,4,6 before:

After:

and the oil burn LEPP-EGKB was 1 quart i.e. 1qt in 5hrs. To be confirmed over time, of course.

I am doing one more run the same way, this time over 15hrs.

Causality vs coincidence?

Coincidence of what and what?

The above post is empty.

Can people post information please. Most one liners contain zero information.

My understanding is that Michael doubts that you (Peter) have enough data to conclude that Mobile 1 0W20 actually is the reason why your plugs are so clean this time around.

LFPT, LFPN

Of course the 0W20 is not going to be the reason for the clean plugs.

But the detergents in the 0W20 are supposed to help loosening up the oil control ring(s) which is what the context of this discussion is about

That, in turn, would reduce the amount of oil getting past the rings and oiling up the plugs.

I started another thread here on something related.
