Oil filter with a huge magnet

Is this any good?

Note also that Tempest versions of the popular spin-on filters have internal magnets.

I many engines the magnet is in the screw of the oil sump. Also larger metal particles will be caught by the filter anyway … so what are the magnets good for?

… considering that all the alloys that are actually “working” are non-ferrous , a metal detector or collector is virtually useless.

Camshaft, cam followers, oil pump gears…?

Anything that removes ferrous partials from the oil system and does not restrict oil flow can’t do any harm.

If the device is worth the weight penalty or having to re-swing the compass is another question !
