Rental cost overview

I am interested in the terms and costs for those who rent planes.

Location/Type/Cost per min/wet/dry/specials

LOWG Graz Austria

2006 SR22 GTS / 7€ wet / tks and oxygen not included, fuel price refunded at LOWG fuel price index, yearly membership fee 240€.

2011 DA40 NG 3,8€ wet / no specials.

Landing fees in LOWG ca. 45€ for average SEP.

My old club in EDWF Leer-Papenburg has three planes for members:

2016 Aquila A210 / 144€ wet / moving map

1979 Cessna 172 N Reims / 174€ wet / no specials

Cirrus SR-20 / 250€ wet / EFIS

Membership fee is 360€/year + 400€ for the first year (joining fee).

Landing at EDWF is 5€ for a SEP as a club member (for others it is free if you refuel)

EDIT: Obviously prices are per flight hour, not per minute as in Snoopy’s post.

Here is a recent price list for the Czech Republic. The prices are wet and inclusive of VAT. To get the price in EUR, divide by 26. For GBP, divide by 29.
Landing fees vary from €2-4 at grass fields to about €25 for major airports other than Prague Ruzyne.

Not exactly renting, but here are the prices at my flying club @EDNY:

  • 2x Katana DA20: 85€
  • 2x PA28 Archer III: 132€ (VFR); 142€ (IFR, Aspen, A/P)
  • 1x C172S (VFR): 138€
  • 1x Mooney M20J (IFR, Aspen, A/P): 185€

All wet and tach time, except for the Mooney, which is billed by flight time (takeoff to touchdown).

Drift alert, but typical six person syndicate in a permit tail wheel comes in at around £50 pcm and £40 ph wet.

After plain vanilla renting for years I joined an equity club earlier this year. Figures (rounded) are:

Buy-in: $ 4000.-
Monthly dues: $ 120.-
Airplane rates wet:
2 x C172: $ 85.- on Hobbs time
1 x C182: $ 135.- on Tach time
1 x C210: $ 185.- on Tach time

Standard rental rates at my airport (KSMO) run from around $ 130 – 150 for a C172 to $ 235 for a C182RG, wet on Hobbs. There are some LSAs available but I don’t know the rates for these.

At our club it’s:

€60 per month
€190 per tacho hour wet.

That’s a Piper Arrow II PA28-200R

EIWT Weston, Ireland

In my club it´s 250€/year plus about 390€ if you don´t manage to work 25hrs for the club.
Rental rates are flexible, if you pay an extra 900€/year you´ll get the regular price minus 60€/hr for the first 15 hours, thereafter the cheaper rate:

SR20 (2003), IFR: 200€/Hobbs (140€/Hobbs)
PA28-180 (2003), IFR: 175€ (122,50€)
PA28-160: 150€ (105€)
Katana: 99€ (69,30€)
Aquila: 105€ (73,50€)

All of this plus 7% VAT. This system clearly favors people flying more than the average renting pilot. I like it a lot, and availability is usually (this year was bad) surprisingly good. Flying 80hrs combined in the Cirrus and the Aquila will be just a little more than 10k€, which is about the fixed costs you´d have to face owning any decent single engine airplane.

In my club it’s a yearly fee of about €370. Each 4-seater (C172R GTN650, C172S G1000, PA28-181 GNS430, all IFR with A/P) is €150/flight hr, wet.

That seems like a cheap arrangement to me. Nice! I thought Sweden was an expensive place…
