Corsica recommendations?

The October Info-Pilote had an article about Corsica

I learnt a new word, « Pinzutu », a tourist from the mainland, slightly pejorative

A quotation from Jacques Dutronc : « La Corse est un petit continent et l’Europe une grande île » (Corsica is a small continent and Europe a big island)

A list of recommendations of restaurants, hotels and things to do from local pilots:

Visited Propriano LFKO end-July in a group of 7 aircraft for about 4 days. 2-3 tented at the aircraft and the rest stayed at hotels in Propriano. Lovely laid-back and uncomplicated airfield. Private activity was very limited, mostly a couple locally-based gyrocopters doing sightseeing flights and French aircraft arriving only to refuel and then leave again. Suspicion is that a lot of airfield/aeroclub activity, especially skydiving, was suspended due to Corona.

Some of our group refuelled with Avgas, but the credit card machine was somewhat temperamental and occasionally required 2-3 attempts before it released the pump. Not everyone got a paper receipt.

Airfield cafe/bar also serves snacks. Was allowed to use the washroom facilities when the cafe was open. A hose on the “clubhouse” next door provided water for showering under the aircraft wing, washing up, etc. Didn’t use it for drinking water though…. preferred to buy bottled water at the cafe. Otherwise no facilities. The clubhouse building itself was locked up. Cafe staff collects airfield fees. 5 nights parking and arrival/departure plus day trip to Corte (departure/arrival) was €50. No details were provided, but suspect that the fee was only for parking, or eventually parking plus one landing. All was rather informally handled.

Taxi’s worked fine back and forth, although the oldest pilot (80) preferred to use his bicycle to go into town. A grass vehicle track runs parallel to the runway down to the beach… a nice walk with beach gear. It is possible to walk into Propriano along the beach (did it), but it is a fairly long way and sand is soft so the walk takes longer than one might expect.

Made a day trip to Corte LFKT, where the airfield was deserted other than our traffic. Due to the heat, we called taxis for the trip into town. Citadel well worth a visit, as is a walk around the old town. Quite touristy, with lots of restaurants, but the food and service was good. Town centre was very busy at least around mid-day, considering the Corona situation.

Sartène is the place to go if you want black market Casu Martzu, a pecorino banned by the EU. From Wikipedia: “Because the larvae in the cheese can launch themselves for distances up to 15 centimetres (6 in) when disturbed, diners hold their hands above the sandwich to prevent the maggots from leaping.” There is a risk of myiasis through the intestinal wall, which is definitely offputting…

Miam !

I have tasted Casu Martzu when spending our honeymoon holidays at corse 1991. As @lbra said: Miam! I never understood why the EU has banned it.
