ATC Strike Greece

What’s up with the strike (supposed to shut down Greek airspace) to start from Sunday 00:01 local for several days. NOTAM published yesterday (we rescheduled our flight home to leave today as a result), but I see no news. Was it called off?

AFISo’s terminate today night.

No, it is not, but it’s a long story.

ATC strike was cancelled few hours ago, off course too late for all who had changed their schedules around it.

Well we cut short our trip by a day and have friends who are now driving to Sofia to get flights out to be back at work on Monday.

As of 18:25 local time in Salonika, when we were checking in, we were told the strike was still on. Is it possible to know ahead of time when these strikes are planned (so as to avoid visiting at the wrong time)? It really makes a mess of a short holiday.

Indeed it does.

Strikes are not announced long time ago unfortunately.
When news come out its up to us individuals to come in an pass the news provided they are able to post in the forum at that time and also learn the news in time.

The cancellation of the strike came in the Greek (on line) news at 18:05L October 8th with some updates at 19:30 so maybe the people that talked with you were not aware of the cancellation yet. This is an example from the (Greek) news portal on the subject.
