Unique post ID

Is there a way to get a unique post ID in EuroGA ?

I have observed that the generated URL by clicking the post number gets a ?page=X#post_YYYYY suffix where X is the page you will see it in the forum according to your custom settings in http://www.euroga.org/user/preferences and YYYYY is the actual post unique number.

Page numbers vary per user settings.
Is there a way to have one unique URL for a specific post within a thread without page number ?

On the right side of each post is a URL with the unique link, #1 etc.

However, there is no way to get a URL which points to a single post only and doesn’t show any others.

I say again :-)

This unique URL is not unique because it depends on the page of the thread you see the post in.
If you have different “posts per page” setting than someone else then the unique URL will not show your post.

How I found out ?
In the past I had a different setting (posts per page) and saved a specific post’s URL in browser.
That put it in page 2 of the thread.
Recently I changed it to less posts per page that put the post in page 6 in MY settings (that anyone has his own and this may vary)
Now I revisit that saved URL and it gets me to a completely different post of the thread.

Intital URL (I had saved)
http://www.euroga.org/forums/flying/497-lessons-learned?page=2#35639

Nowaday’s URL
http://www.euroga.org/forums/flying/497-lessons-learned?page=6#post_35639

Wait .. now I see that there is a # with #post difference nowadays but the page number issue still remains.

Negative, Petakas. Such URL’s do not contain the page number (or I should misunderstand something). Example:

http://www.euroga.org/forums/website/4475-unique-post-id/post/74209#74209

EBZH Kiewit, Belgium

The URL I obtain for your above post, Petakas, using the method I showed, is this

http://www.euroga.org/forums/website/4475-unique-post-id/post/74214#74214

Do you get a different URL?

If I just click on the “#4” (not use the right-click method) I get

http://www.euroga.org/forums/website/4475-unique-post-id#post_74214

which also works.

Maybe because there is only one page in the thread, try a multipage one like the one I referred above.

Go for example here http://www.euroga.org/forums/flying/497-lessons-learned find my post towards the end and click the number of the post, do you or do you not get a page number in the URL ?

The #post number should give you a link which goes straight to that post and it works for anybody, whether they are logged in or not, and regardless of what they have posts per page set to, and what order they have posts set to.

If you click on that link, instead of using your browsers copy link option from the context menu, it will actually make a request and then redirect you to the appropriate page for you as a user depending on your settings. That redirect means you may end up with a page parameter in the URL. But the original “copy” URL doesn’t have a page parameter.

Hope that helps.

Got it thanks.
So for my above example the steady link is http://www.euroga.org/forums/flying/497-lessons-learned/post/35639
