Can one run AFPEX on Android 4.4.2?

Under windows XP, I start AFPEX simply by clicking on a file on desktop called ats.xjnlp.jnlp which contains

On the Samsung tablet, it doesn’t know what to do with the file.

Is there some simple solution to this?

There are others who are trying to do the same.

No, Android does not support Java (in the desktop sense) and neither Java Web Start.

In that case the only solution is same as for IOS: RDP (remote desktop) connection to a windows PC

You need to

  1. set up a VPN to your home router, and
  2. set up the RDP client on the tablet

Looking at this the Samsung tablet does support a PPTP VPN which is supported by most home-market routers. This is same as an Ipad (which also offers an obscure IPSEC VPN which is an absolute bastard to set up unless you have the right Cisco router model).

If you need VFR (as well as maybe IFR) I would suggest a free account with EuroFPL is a better way – it’s a standard website. They give you ~ 10 free FPs per month, which is enough for even fairly frequent flying. The only time I needed more was in 2013 when I was flying to some airfields in France which needed a stop to clear Customs.
