Airfield Surfaces and Debris

A salutory tale. Yesterday when parking at a licensed airfield a drain cover lifted and rattled the propeller damaging two blades. Initial estimates are in the order of £15K.

Apologies for image quality.

Whilst you’re at it, add 1k for a proper wash and wax job…

Mainz (EDFZ) & Egelsbach (EDFE), Germany

Oh, its way beyond that.

Any hope in sueing the aerodrome operator? I suppose they must legally be obliged to have insurance? Or would you need to offer proof of gross negligence?

From the pictures it looks that every single panel is bolted to the ground. Would be interesting to find out why this one came loose. Here in Germany, this would be clearly the airfield operator’s responsibility, but in the UK, who knows…

EDDS - Stuttgart

And best of all, repairs are likely performed at the same airfield.

Very sad to see this.
