Looking at the track in FR24 this looks like a sightseeing / photography flight gone wrong. RIP.
Unfortunately, there was a comment on a preliminary report read elsewhere that the PIC was thought to be depressed at the time of the flight.
Sounds more reasonable to me. However really sad outcome.
AAIB report confirms what we all expected: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/656706e5d6ad75001302fc64/Cessna_210M_G-TOTN_01-24.pdf
This happened close enough to where I live that we could hear the coast guard helicopter pass overhead and all the emergency vehicles going to the scene, I pretty much immediately checked FlightRadar24 on the day and saw what had happened. (I didn’t know the pilot).
The report doesn’t say it but the call for the AME’s to have full access to the GP’s files will become louder again with such acts…. Together with the call for psychological evaluations and so on… Whatever his motives, he has done a massive disservice to a hobby he allegedly loved and brought misfortune and grief to all his family and loved ones.
Such a nice plan :(. At least didn’t he bring 163 passengers with him.
The barrier between AME and GP will vanish one day…
