Differences between France and UK : VFR flying

There are no IFR frequencies. There is SIV (info) frequencies and then CAS frequencies.
If Cannes hand you to info you will be OCAS.
The next question is for you “what do you want to do?” Can you and do you want to fly to Avignon OCAS"
If you need or want to enter CAS just say to SIV that you would line to leave the frequency for a while in order to get approval to enter CAS at such and such a point..They will either give you a frequency or you will have one on SDVFR.
You call them and they will give you a txp code and just pass you through the various CASs to Avignon, if you need to go OCAS between CASs you might need to repeat certain info.
It would be polite after your initial call and clearance to enter CAS to return to the original SIV to sign off.
There is very little difference between IFR and.VFR treatment by ATS except that in IFR you have a FPL and after the first call they know what your intentions are. In VFR because you have no FPL your intentions are less clear unless you tell ATS. Of course there are differences in rules of the air regarding cloud etc. And in VFR once OCAS you.are more likely to.wander around a bit do bit of sightseeing etc without necessarily keeping 2way comms open as you would in IFR. Therefore you might need to request a further approval to re enter CAS when you want to do so.

At Cannes you just get a clearance to a VFR departure point, e.g. WD (for flights headed West) at 2500 feet. Once you get close, they tell you to call Nice Info (120.85) – though of course that’s optionalBold. IFR departure is a different matter, there they give you a departure route and hand you off to Nice Approach.

That’s optional because, once out of Cannes CTR, you can stay below 2500ft and don’t contact anyone – dodging the MIL of Le Luc. We got bad habits by not asking them transit, but it is implicit in the message because they’re asking our intentions, and grants us almost whatever we ask.

Forgot to say at the time, spot on Bordeaux_Jim. In future I’ll always request a good service, and check for Forrest Gump.
