High-level conference on peace in Ukraine: military support and airspace restriction
Of essence: The airspace restriction will apply from 8am local time on 13 June until 8pm local time on 17 June, and will be limited to the airspace around the Bürgenstock resort. The Swiss Air Force will provide air policing and advanced airspace surveillance services. The airspace will be restricted for visual flight rules (VFR) and non-commercial instrument flight rules (IFR) traffic, and for pilotless aircraft.
When flying around here these days, a look at the Daily Airspace Bulletin Switzerland sure won’t hurt.
Both my home bases will be closed down, due to this event. At least it’s a one-time event, I don’t think the Bürgenstock will become a yearly occurrence on the political agenda. On the other side, when WEF at Davos takes place, local airfields have special procedures for home-based traffic. This is however not the case for the Ukraine peace conference, it’s a hard VFR and non-commercial IFR ban. Sad yes, but at least it’s only one long weekend and not a month of uncertainty, like with the European football championship in Germany.
