You’re right Krister, that’s a good point, I was actually thinking about that earlier. I mean if I’m getting clear ice on the wings, I won’t know until its probably too late anyway – no matter what colour the plane is – so I guess it would be for rime ice and stuff like that. Does nobody here think that an all-black PA38 would look cool? Maybe not ALL black, don’t want it to look like an airborne darth vader!
Having looked at the examples in Peter’s link it must be the black paint which makes 369ST so ugly
Not it is the unbalanced non-Meridianess of its shape!!
Turbine aircraft tend to look better when they were designed that way from the beginning. If you’re into anteaters I guess you might be attracted by the looks though..
A friend of mine flies a global express that is painted all black (I’ve been for a ride in it, awesome aircraft). He said that when they go to hot countries they cant fill the wing tanks to full capacity as the fuel just starts pissing out of the overflow valve!

Exhibit #2:
My point exactly. The 207 in the photo above wasn’t designed for a turbine, hence looks like sh*t.
How much did it cost you to get yours re-sprayed? What type do you have?
Its a PA28, and the cost was about £12,000, with some corrosion work needed doing, and we paid about £1500 for new wing tip’s.
£12,000? That’s too expensive for us I’m afraid :(
Was wanting to get something like this done to the Tommy. And does anyone know if it’s possible to get a company to advertise on your plane, like they do on cars? The Breitling tomahawk in that link looks amazing!

I think the re-spray was more about £6000, but we had 2 new wingtips that needed fitting, some other fairings that needed small repairs, some corrosion work, a stabiliator that needed some new skins and specialist rivets, and then there is the labour charge for all of this, with the removing and re-fitting of whatever had to be removed during the course of the spray job, and a new weight and balance sheet or whatever other paperwork was needed. All adds up :-(
