Saw this rather unfortunate spectacle at St Peter Ording, Germany, last week. The 177 Cardinal had run off the runway into a deep drainage ditch, the ‘V’ of which pinned the doors shut. Apparently the occupants had to be rescued through the windows. It is obviously just as well that the ditch was empty!
I hope it will fly again. I flew a Cardinal for a while and really like that type. The C177 should have replaced the C172 a long time ago.
