CTOT due to weather?

A friend got this today:

There is a lot of TS activity around but that CTOT was when things were pretty clear

What criteria are used to generate a weather related CTOT?

When there’s convection around, they restrict the flow rate through affected sectors as there are lots of deviation around weather which reduced capacity.

I think you have a different concept of “pretty clear” from the Network Manager (and me).

That EGKA-LKLT route was broadly north of that wx, and it doesn’t look like he was doing any wx avoids either

However it is interesting because this is the first time I have heard of this, in 12 years of IFR. When were wx-related CTOTs instroduced?

They have been there forever. Apparently you just were lucky so far.

A lot of flights had them today, my wife’s flight for example from Rome to Heathrow had a WX delay from EuroControl applied through the Alps from FL310+

The NM public portal is quite useful.

Today’s stats show wx causing the most significant portion of the delays.

Yep I had a slot out of EDFE for exactly that reason.
