It´s been about 20 years, but this thread brings back fond memories of flying solo in both Lasham and Portmoak, Scotland, on a brief holiday trip in March 1996 or so. We were offered rooms to sleep, enjoyed the evening with club members and flew K21s and K13s with instructors before changing to single seat Juniors and Discus´ after a short checkout flight and enrolling for a day-membership. Had the most amazing thermals in early spring, I couldn´t believe this was possible in England. I doubt that hospitality has changed much, so just go there and give it a try!
Glider clubs also have “gatherings”. We had one a couple of weeks ago. One week with gliding all day long. Should be enough to get you going a long way towards the license when you have the PPL. You could also do training in motorgliders, but I think you need some launches nonetheless? Then there is Germany with huge fields and multiple winches.
