Good FBOs in Europe

I’m looking to find out which GA “accessible” airports have decent FBO/lounge/handling facilities in Europe for SEPs. I’m one of the few happy to pay for handling if the service is good and there is a proper executive lounge to wait before/after the flight. I know this isn’t everyone’s preference so go easy on me.

I’ll start the list…

Hawarden Airport (EGNR) – Aviation Park Group had a comfortable lounge for my passengers, organised car hire that was collected and dropped back at the FBO and overall provided a good service. Can’t recall the price, but it was reasonable for the service received.

Prestwick (EGPK) – Airport authority provide a facility, service seemed good but very poor portacabin lounge. Willing to organise rental car to FBO. Approx 45 £ handling.

Southend (EGMC) – Stobart Handling. Good lounge, don’t recall handling price breakdown. Handling seemed so so, the staff always seem distracted or perhaps focused elsewhere.

Bordeaux (LFBD) / Aviapartner : there is a comfortable lounge and they can manage car hire.
I got same service recently at Bruxelles (EBBR) with Aviapartner also.

Oxford have always given me good service

EHLE / Lelystad, Netherlands, Netherlands

My homebase of Hannover EDDV has a decent GA terminal, which was previously described as “FBO-like” on the popular German GA site eddh.de.

Disclaimer: I’ve never used the lounge itself, nor do I have experience with FBOs as I’ve never flown in the US.

All the facilities I did use in EDDV so far were decent, the service at the desk is generally good (always got a “car park for free” card from them so far) and the fees are very reasonable for a major H24 airport with three runways.

There are quite a lot of airports which have nice lounges for bizjet customers. Annecy LFLP is one I recall – very posh.

Pick any airport which is busy with bizjets and you can be sure to find a nice facility there. The customers are paying a few k plus for the flight so they expect nice treatment. I got these from a bizjet pilot:

Grafair at Stockholm, Bromma ESSB
Signature, Luton EGGW
Saxonair at Norwich EGSH
Gama on Jersey EGJJ

Guernesey EGJB – ASG has a basic lounge and a kitchen upstairs. 10 £ handling and good staff. Advice : first thing when you land, get some ££ at an ATM, nobody knows Euros there, and ASG has a 2.5 % surcharge if you pay via CC.

Biarritz LFBZ – Posh lounge available facing the apron if you ask for handling (I only saw the restrooms). Landing and 24h parking was 37€ last year, handling I don’t know.

Lyon Bron LFLY has a lounge too.

LFOU, France

Billund (EKBI) has a small but very stylish GA terminal, with super helpful and friendly service (fueling self serve). You arrive in true style every time you visit Legoland (been there five times now…)

ESOW, Sweden

Olbia LIEO in Sardinia has an absolutely stunning GA terminal, lots of high-end shops inside, luxurious lounges, restaurants etc.

You are a spoiled bunch In Norway, if you are lucky, you get picked up by an AVINOR car, escorted through the “main gate” (gate used for working personell) and you are on your own.

One time a few months ago at Namsos, outside opening hours. At the door into the terminal I met a couple of Germans doing photo flying in a Caravan. We met in the door, talked for a few minutes, then I went inside and they went out to fly. Inside it was empty and dark, not a single person around. No food, no coffee, not even a single sending machine. Went to the toilet and headed out, only to find out all the doors were closed. I was effectively locked inside the terminal. I called the airport by phone, and one guy turned up coming from the same door as I did. He said, that door was like a mouse trap, it let people in, but you had to have a card to get out to the flight side. He than grabbed for his car around his neck, only to discover he had forgotten it at his office. So now, he also was trapped He called yet another guy, and after 5-10 minutes we were all free.
