GTN Configuration Experiments

I asked Reality XP, the excellent people that integrate the GTN simulator into X-Plane, if they would include some more of the installation options, and they have now done so.

This includes Enable RF Legs and all the stuff around VNAV (Transition to Approach, for example), as well as the ability to switch between VCALC and VNAV.

This means that the aircraft can be in a situation, paused and, in a few seconds, the GTN rebooted with the new options, which should enable us to answer questions about the effect of configurations.

This saves landing a real aircraft, reconfiguring, and flying back to where you were (which might be the transition from STAR to approach), which might be somewhat impractical and expensive .

I’ll have a play (in my copious free time ), but if anyone can think of any particular experiments or comparisons they would like me to try, please let me know.

How do they get access to the actual behaviour of the GTN, do you know ?

They use the Garmin Trainer, which itself uses the same software and database as the real thing.
