Corona / Covid-19 Virus - General Discussion (politics go to the Off Topic / Politics thread)

That’s good news.
As of now, PCR tests in France are booked for about 5 days and results are given 5 to 7!! days after the test. Completely useless.
They start to understand that restaurants and bars cause a lot of infections. Better late than never
All flight displays (where spacing is not an issue usually) were forbidden of course, but several illegal multi-thousand people music fiestas happened, some in protected natural areas. No enforcement.

As MD said above, western societies completely failed to be responsible with this.

@Graham
Wishing you well… keep us posted! If it is Covid, let the fever run unless it gets really high. The one symptom that always seems present is fever. Sometimes people make the mistake of trying to reduce it prematurely.

Reading elsewhere the BBC are reporting it is now 26 days since China has seen a single domestic case.

I dont know what to make of it?

It would be very difficult to hush up cases if they are ongoing, unless perhaps at a very low level – even the Chinese cant stop leaks of information I suspect, but equally, really, no cases, how have they achieved this?

“When test Cycle Threshold (CT) exceeds 33 actual positivity (as determined by viral cultures) drops to zero. Most labs are using (CT) of 40.
See chart from UK Health”

“Number of cycles needed to achieve a positive related to outcome. Any positive that required more than 30 cycles should be questioned without good corroberative evidence.”

How many cycles is the UK doing?

Page 16; using 45 cycles for PCR….

Edit: recent change, labs are asked to set a threshold above which they should re-test.

Ours do 40. They can’t reprogram the machines to do fewer.

The wife of a colleague of mine is working with this virus, keeping track of the situation etc. She is genuinely concerned about it. This could get real nasty. But then, I guess all doctors are concerned? Not sure what to think, but I don’t think flying GA will help much

Talked to my colleague yesterday about this. We were more, yes sure… how much damage can a flu do Little did we know that this would affect the entire world the way it has done.

Another thing. Vaccines are coming along now. How many will take the vaccine? I’m not so sure I will.

Thanks to Sweden for not following the herd.
Their results reveal that the panic and mayhem wasn’t warranted.
The forecasts and naysayers all said Sweden was going to suffer a horrible scourge , but it looks like their team got it right.
Thanks Swedes!

The problem is that nobody seems to know why it worked.

Actually nobody seems to know very much about why most things in this sage worked or didn’t work.

Incidentally, does anybody know the current numbers for Annecy? I think all Germans have, or will have, dropped out of the fly-in, due to the German Govt classification of the relevant region meaning that if anyone returning quarantines, their employer will not be obliged to pay them (or something like that). But for others there is the more practical need to know the actual numbers e.g. what % of people around the place are infectious?

The current UK number is about 0.2% but that includes big cities, which makes it useless. The likely number of outside big cities is 0.01%.
