Motorized Towbar

Hello,
just had a bit of a DIY session and build myself a towbar for a Beech
Costs approx 210 euros
90 euro new wireless 2000lbs winch
45 euro dry battery
35 euro Alloy extrusion and connectors plastic caps one 3mtr 30×30 bar http://www.item24.com/
25 euro Alloy material
15 euro flat steel and “handle knobs”

Time approx 5hrs 1,5hrs was for turning and machining the ally halfs and machining the cable drum round as it is from casting and not very round
I used the principle from http://www.csobeech.com/CSOB-towbar.html

Beautiful!

I would like time to do this kind of stuff again… well, we have a greenhouse which has an electronically controlled heater, an LED light, wifi and will soon have an ambient light controlled window opener

Weight, I reckon… 5kg?

it is a bit on the heavy side

5,5kg battery 18Ah I guess with a bit less Ah – weight could be reduced
5,5kg winch
1,5kg alloy extrusion i like a lot to use this material as it is cheap strong vertisile easy to work with and as it is anodized there is also a finish on it
1kg pullywheel (this could be lighter if nylon or pom would be used) and some steel bits but i had this block of alloy availible

so about 13,5 – 14kg a touch on the heavy side that is why I added the “handle” behind the battery to better balance it

I will try to make the handle in a split way so it is easier storable

I also added a 2pin socket for the charger so it can get easy charged without any fear of shorting out etc

https://www.redlineaviation.com/beechcraft/sidewinder-beechcraft-airplanes/ these things are about 11kg but also 1500 euros!!

i will give it some “testruns” to see how it works
(I only found out that I need something like this a my new plane F33A is a bit heavier than my previous C182 and I got a new space allocated in the hangar and suddenly pull/pushing the plane got a bit of an issue. And watching some guys with those bigger towtugs where they have to rock it if they want to make a corner/bend did not appiel to me. Also to price of those things!!! and in about 5 hrs I had this thing made (most time was spend on the mill/Lathe as I am not an expert for those)
