Which plane trading websites do you check?

My theory is that people who sell planes on the internet do exactly the same thing as women do in internet dating: they join just one site and hope that the tall dark handsome adventurous spontaneous uninhibited assertive (just listing the standard tick boxes, you understand) prince on a white horse will appear out of it and sweep her off her feet

Well, we are currently selling our Cessna 150 and we found that a good priced aircraft finds quite a bit of attention. So far there are (around one week)

  • 3 people via aircraft24
  • 1 via Flugzeugmarkt.de
  • 1 via Segelflug.de
  • 3 via planecheck
  • 3 via Facebook
contacts. Some tire kickers, some serious

Other sites I browse (that haven’t been mentioned before):
http://www.segelflug.de/osclass/
http://www.essential-aircraft.com/
http://www.occasionair.com/index.php?page=voir
http://www.aviastock.com/fr/index.php
http://www.rsafrance.com/PA/
http://www.aerosales.co.uk/for-sale/light-aircraft
http://pilots24.com/grosser-flugzeugmarkt.html
http://barnstormers.com/
http://flightplanet.com/index.php
http://www.ffa-aero.fr/
http://www.flugzeugmarkt.de/motorflugzeug-kaufen
http://www.helmuts-ul-seiten.de/marktplatz.html

So if you are looking to buy a plane you do need to do some hard digging And more than likely the best ones will arrive by a private message.

It depends. Many good priced aircraft have found their new lover via classifieds, many good deals have been made without an ad. Those are hard to come by and it pays if you have someone who has good contacts everywhere. Especially if you are “on a budget”. But I love this “hunting”, especially at the bottom end at cheap aircraft. You learn a lot about maintenance neglect and fatigue this way.

So, people looking for planes on the internet, and guys looking for girls on the internet, need to do the whole lot. I don’t know how many plane sites there are for Europe, and how many dealer adverts there are online and in the printed rags, but when I last did internet dating (2003) there were about 20 sites covering the UK And I bet there are more plane sites than you think because Europe has a lot of different languages and there is very little mixing in terms of which media is referenced.

http://www.globalplanesearch.com seems to aggregate information from other advertising sites. At least when I looked at it recently several planes turned up multiple times and if you click on links for detailed information about a plane, you are redirected to different sites.

Will sneak this in while the thread drift police are on a coffee break.

When your grand kids ask, Grandpa you could have bought this for the price of a second hand Cirrus? What are you going to answer.

Those are the main ones I visit when I want to look around what is being advertised.

In my opinion, if you’re not just window shopping but are serious about buying a plane, you have to hit the streets so to speak. You have to call around, especially people that know people. A lot of planes, especially the desirable ones, are sold before they even make it to a listing on the Internet. And it’s the only way to get to planes that are not on the market, but the owner would be willing.

but the owner would be willing.

Everybody has a price

You could probably buy any TB20GT (well, not mine) if you offered enough to enable to owner to buy an SR22 with TKS – the usual thing TB20 owners have their binoculars pointed at, even if most won’t admit it, especially as any Cirrus discussion is banned on the Socata owner group

Not me

Thread drift can be fun. Also most threads die a natural death and then going elsewhere is fine (I can update the thread title). There are two cases where it’s a problem:

  • where the drift is something interesting/important so starting a new thread is worth doing (and I don’t want to do it much because it takes me time)
  • where somebody is doing off topic posts all the time (not an issue currently)

Peter I trust you saw I was being lighthearted.

In any event the mods may want one of these.

But you’re probably not interested in significantly overpaying.
