For continental student, http://www.boutique.aero/article-6428-cd_rom_g1000_pc_trainer_pour_cessna_nav_iii.aero might be delivered quicker and at a better price
(note that the French boutique sells an earlier version)
You can read on the Garmin website
This PC Trainer operates on Windows® 2000/XP/Vista®/7 platforms only; Windows 8/8.1 and Mac® operating systems are not supported
At some point my old Windows 7 laptop will cease to work, and most of my students don’t have any legacy computer at hand.
My first idea would be to look for another piece of software. Is there any?
The other idea would be to use an emulator. I could use one with some success to emulate the G430 on my Mac during my CPL training. Have any of tried with the G1000?
I use an old version (8.13). I could not find any GNSS approach in it.
1 Where is the oldest GNSS approach published? I suppose it’s not in Europe.
2 If you have a newer version are there any GNSS approaches in it? Where?
EDIT may be that post should be in Avionics?
You can always install win7 on any IBM-compatible computer (subject to finding drivers for some obscure hardware, but win7 has drivers for most things).
You just need to “obtain” the installation DVD
You can even get win7 32-bit legally from Amazon e.g. this and at that price I would not bother with the torrent versions which come with all the updates. Just install this and apply all updates. On winXP this is no longer possible and you have to use one of the “fully updated” torrent DVDs.
It is possible to update the nav database file in the G1000 sim for the PC by copying the file off an actual G1000 nav update. I know people who have done this, but I don’t know how it is done.
I use Parallels Desktop to run an emulated Windows 7 system on my Mac. The G1000 sim works fine with that setup.
The garmin g1000 sim works fine on windows 10 no matter what they publish
This might be useful for those with iPad:
Tried an early version more than 2-3 years ago. Could only talk positive about it then, but it was lacking instrument procedures etc, but i think they fixed it? I will try it again and see. A lot of features for $10.
A free and legal copy of G1000 PC trainer version 13 is available here: https://www.sportys.com/pilotshop/garminapp
Here is my setup with the Simionic G1000 and X-plane 10.
