Yes, I know they are standard on all Van’s RVs – I have one on my RV-8 – and they are horrible at filtering dirt and dust. Fine for birds and bugs and anything “big”. I tried a K&N on a motocross bike way back in the 70s and ruined my engine. However, thankfully that happened, as it introduced me to a machine shop where the owner explained to me why he loves K&N filters, since they drive so much business to him. Shortly after I started working for the guy rebuilding motorcycle engines – many thanks to K&N filters. Great job for a 17 year old. He also took me for my first airplane ride in his piper tri-pacer. He was also building a KR2 with a VW engine. Great guy. And thanks to horrible K&N air filters I got into airplanes!
