Smartphone based weather radar app?

One app I installed recently was the Windy.com one. It works quite well. You do have to pay though; I don’t think it is free. I always pay for apps which are useful, and I bin the rest

Ah yes, Windy I also use, it’s very good.

So what’s your 2021 weather management “flow”, from days ahead of the fly, to in-flight decision making?

Up to 10 days ahead: Ogimet GFS models
2-3 days ahead: MSLP charts
1 day ahead: TAFs
on the day: TAFs and F214/215
Observations just before the flight: Aero Weather for METARs, SkyVector for SIGMETs, Windy for WX Radar, Sat24 for infrarred cloud images, Blitzortung for lightning strikes
during the flight: nearby ATISs. The Golze thing sounds interesting but pricey (at least for a poor student)

All you listed above is available at Windy. However, I also like to crosscheck different apps but somehow it looks like they all rely on same information sources and the rest is just graphical presentation.

The only thing missing in Windy are the things that require human interaction (except for TAFs arguably). I believe Windy only presents raw data from models, but no SIGMETs, no SIGWX charts etc.

What I like about OGIMET is that it presents not only the latest METAR/TAF, but also the history, as far back as you want, so you can see what the general trend is.

Forgot to add the Autorouter bot, which is very convenient to get info sent straight onto your phone and not have to navigate weather websites which tend not to be formatted for phones.

The French" Aeroweb" can be mobile or internet, if you are meaning what I think you mean.
I have found it to be all I need for IFR flight in France and surrounding areas.

You can see what I usually use in short presentation that I made for one of our Zoom meetings.

Little update on this thread! Any new weather apps in the recent years that you guys are using?

Have a look at Orbifly for ‘on the day’. It is not exactly new, however, it has a simple interface for METARs and TAFs. For trans-europe flight one can see the day’s weather at a glance. I find checking routes, alternates and destinations is quick. It is low bandwidth, good on a mobile and very cheap… free.

I don’t find this very useful, probably because windy.com has more layers and better graphical presentation.
