PPL/IR

Off topic but the new AR Telegraph text query function is priceless. I use it now instead of visiting lots of different apps/websites for information. Much faster. Actually, one thing it doesn’t have it cloud top temps and given this wicked wx system we have today/tomorrow, that would be nice.

How is it different from the autorouter tracking functionality?

I was hoping for that comment :) Haven’t found any references in the documentation about tracking functionality…

Achim, I get a greyscale (not colour like above) image to the ‘tops’ cmd?

I always was of the opinion that the less documentation you need, the better the product. Obviously we’re not perfect there.

You get a tracking link:

  • in your flight plan confirmation email
  • in your briefing pack
  • on the flight plan screen in the web interface

Tracking links do not require a login and can be shared. You can also share them on Facebook and Twitter by clicking a button.

Sometimes sat24 does not have the tops overlay ready on time. Try again. It works 99% of the cases for me.

What has all the above to do on a thread inquiring about PPL/IR?!
Within the overall costs of flying, £75 pa is negligible for the benefits received.
The PPL/IR forum page is uncluttered with spurious postings and concentrates on helping/answering the very questions that IR/IMC pilots are asking; answered by very knowledgeable pilots who know what they are saying. This forum alone justifies the subscription.
Add to that the lobbying that they do specifically on IR matters (AOPA – good as it is for GA – is too broad to specialise in this way) and the subscription is clearly worth it.

To be fair, Peter_G, exactly the same can be said of EuroGA

We do sometimes go off topic here but that’s the way life is… most things have multiple angles which are all relevant and, providing you avoid drivel (which we do) everything contributes to a useful picture.

We also have a very even moderation policy so if someone posts something denigrating somebody (and possibly quotes a private email while at it) and the target then posts his response, we would leave both or delete both, not delete just the second one Anything else would get me publicly lynched. Of course, this is extremely rare anyway, here…

When I regularly flew airways I subscribed, I think in those days it may have been £30, but I then switched to VFR for personal flying. This forum seems to cover a lot of the practical information needed.

I am an AOPA UK member.

I am a member of PPL/IR and think they offer quality information on their forum and organize good social and technical events. It is true that the group is mostly UK based pilots.
