CPL/IR and Night Qualification

Yesterday I was talking to a guy who has a PPL and is working towards a CPL/IR and doing his 14 exams (airline pilot career).

He was saying something about the night flying being done as a separate part, and sent me this

I know you can have a day-only IR (this was a UK under the table option for about 15 years and is now official under EASA FCL) and presumably you can have a day-only CPL. Obviously these would be useless in practice. At which point do UK ATOs do the night flying time?

Integrated will do it as part of single engine phase, modular will do it post PPL before CPL. Every summer (and this one was no exception) I have panicked phone calls from students trying to do a night rating in July / August having days to go before starting a CPL and wondering why they can’t find an airfield / instructor / low cost way of doing it!

Now retired from forums best wishes
