TBM article on icing

I agree that in Europe for Non turbo aircraft <2 Tonnes which my C210 is Ive encountered more Ice flying IFR in one year than I have in 5 yrs of flying in the US. My ultimate proof is the amount of TKS fluid used up. By the way I flew 30-40% more in the US then I do here.

My main mission is flying between LHTL and EDMA. The MEAs are much higher here than in the US which is one reason. Ive never collected Ice at FL100 in the US Flying in the NE in June. Flying to Corfu from BUD I have.

Because of the higher Vref if you have de icing and anti icing services on, I’ve wondered how much utility you really get out of the Courchevel altiport rating. Presumably you need to be CAVOK to arrive with ice free Vref, and land on the threshold.



Nice landing although using beta on the 18% gradient was interesting, I understand some aircraft tip back if you slow down too much on this part of the slope.
