I would thoroughly recommend Zell am See and have Salzburg as your alternative. Are you IFR? If so, it is worth familiarising with the RNP arrival at LOWZ (not approach). LOWS is a pretty standard approach, there is no terrain when arriving from the north.
Thanks! Absolutely, we’ve been to both Zell am See and Salzburg before and it’s great! Never managed to fly into LOWZ yet though, only by car so far. It’s our primary destination still if the weather is acceptable.
Just visited LOWS a couple of weeks ago and it’s a very nice GA destination, friendly airport, nice city and everything close by. Heck, I’ll do a write-up…
…when visiting Zell am See, may take St. Johann LOIJ into consideration. Scienic approach and landscape, friendly & relaxed staff, nice restaurant with excellent Wiener Schnitzel and Kaiserschmarrn, very reasonable pricing throughout. Been there on Sunday, excellent!
Also very nice for having good food is Leutkirch EDNL or Nancy LFSN (ok last one maybe not directly on your magenta line ;-)
Alternative to Koblenz may be Trier EDRT, nice restaurant, nice Town (but you’ need Taxi to get there)
