Contemplating routing options for a D-reg Touring Motorglider to make it to Greece.
It is not fitted with any Transponder as this is not required in Germany.
Greece in fact is tricky: You need a customs airport, without TMA radar control. Ioannina fits the bill. Corfu, and Thessaloniki are out.
Would anyone be able to advise on whether installation / operation of Transponder is absolutely necessary for a TMG routing through Italy or the Balkans ? (second option complicated).
Do I have it right, that in Italy, Services may be uncoopoerative and one may be forced very low down, like a basic ULM ?
I have found(AIP) that in Croatia it is optional. Albania has very simpe airspace and it appears possible to duck under Tirana TMA.
