I flew VFR to Coburg last weekend (Wiener Neustadt Ost LOAN to Coburg EDQC on Saturday and back on Sunday). Great trip! Thanks for the idea, Boscomantico!
The trip there was under a broken layer into scattered better conditions in Germany.
Weather was worse than forecast on the way back on Sunday. I stayed above (at a nonstandard 8000 ft MSL) what was at first a scattered, then broken layer, turning into overcast as I approached Vienna. So I took a hole and descended, fearing I would lack a legal way to get down closer to the destination.
These two photos tell the story: #1 OTT & #2 below (during descent):
It would have been nice to have a way to descend through the overcast closer to the destination!
