Summer 2018 - flying north

Since a while we planned for our summer vacation to go to Sweden this year. But unfortunately the fire in the forests made us thinking again about our planing. Finally we decided to go to the region but staying mainly on the islands. That means to add some new location to my island list.
This was our routing, 1850 nm, around 11 hours of flying, all vfr beside one short flight to Kuressare which was done on Z flightplan.

First, before coasting out, we made a short fueland coffee stop at Barth EDBH. Fuel as around 2,41 €/l and with the Landegutscheinheft, the landing was free.

Then we continued to ESSV Visby, to visit the nice town again. They offerd us the grass runway, which was the best choice due of the wind situation. Then we took some fuel and left via the aeroclub to the town.




We stayed there only one night, because we have been there before and Kuressare EEKE was waiting for us for a 3 nights stay. A great flight. We departed vfr and when coming clother to the bad weather in the Riga FIR I asked for the Ifr pickup. „You are IFR now.“ was the immediate answer. When approaching the field they offerd me the ILS approach on own conveyance because there was no traffic on the field. After refuelling and a short trip to the hotel we enjoyed the rest of the day on the beach and with some great food.



To continue with the island hopping we departed to EFKG Kumlinge with its red runway to enjoy life on the see. At the field there are bicycles and so it was easy to go around and visit the important spots on land and we rented also a boat to make a trip around the island.



The white stone marker is where Kumlinge got its name from.

Then we decided to choose ESMC Eksjö, near the lake Södar Vixen, as next location for some sweet water bathing. We got PPR and a privat follow me to the parking place after landing from Frederic. This was helpful, because the grassstrip is located within several streets and path so it was good to have a local to guide us. After taking some fotos of our Bonanza and calling us a taxi he had to hurry back to work. Nolanding fees, no fuel and the grass strip in good condition.





Eksjö, the town is worth a visit and just a few walking minutes away from the field.

Again two days later we went to Ronneby ESDF for refuelling and to visit Karlskrona. It looks like beeing quit a distance from the fiel but there is a bus for 140 SEK twoways direct to Karlskrona.



From there we took of two day later, after waiting for several military fighters to land to fly to ESMB Borglanda, another grass strip on an island. Also worth a visit. No fuel, 60 SEK landing, 30 SEK the bike per day.

Finally the vacation comes to its end and as there were only two days left we decided to add a last island to our list, Usedom with EDAH Heringsdorf. Here we took an app2drive car and visited several locatons on the island. But we stayed at Swinemünde, Poland, which was nice and much cheaper then on the german side.


After saying goodbye to the coast we headed back to Stuttgart EDDS.
